TESTIMONIALS

Central Otago Pinot Festival 2009

Featured at the 2009 Central Otago Pinot Festival Luncheon, Black Quail's 2007 Pinot Noir was chosen to be served with the main course that was prepared by the head chef of The Wine Kitchen (Queenstown).

Bob Campbell, Master of Wine of the Tasting Room

Gave the 2007 Pinot Noir 94 out of 100. "...A typical (for the vintage) velvet texture with dark cherry and subtle spicy flavour. Elegant wine that's not quite in the fruit bomb league (and better for it). Very classy Pinot Noir." He also gave the 2005 Pinot Noir a 90 out of a possible 100 points putting it well into the silver medal category, and called it a “stylish pinot noir ...balanced and has a lingering finish. (An) impressive wine that promises to reward cellaring.”

2013 Pinot Noir

Raymond Chan

"Full, even, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is firm and tightly bound, unfolding fragrantly ripe and pure black cherry and dark-red berry fruit aromas entwined with soft notes of thyme herbs and a suggestion of whole bunch stalk complexities and nuances of spicy oak. The intensity and concentration is a feature...
This is a rich and vibrant Pinot Noir with complex and fragrant flavours of dark raspberries and herbs, with fine structure and underlying power."

2012 Pinot Noir Black Quail Estate

2012 Pinot Noir

Peter Saunders

"Vineyard on the Kawarau River near Bannockburn. A beaut wine, dark, flavoursome and with a lot of vinous liveliness. Careful making is apparent from vineyard through winery; a wine to enjoy with dinner as a classical Central Otago statement with a lot of charm. Enjoy now and watch it open in the wine glass, or in bottle - into 2020."

2012 Pinot Noir Black Quail Estate

2012 Pinot Noir

Raymond Chan

"Dark, deep red colour with some garnet hues on rim. This has a soft, full and voluminous bouquet with a deep and elegantly presented core of concentrated black cherry and savoury dark red berry fruits, harmoniously infused with aromas of dark and dried herb perfumes and complexities, revealing nuances of oak toast..."

2012 Pinot Noir Black Quail Estate

2011 Pinot Noir

Peter Saunders

"Like the 2012, the colour is dark, the flavours quite intense. Drinking very well now at four years but a Pinot in no hurry. A wine with ripe fruit which gives a lovely presence; a fine silky texture. Mouth-filling and elegant. Definitely a relation of the 2012. Excellent drinking into 2018 at least."
