Tasting Notes

Jen Parr - April 2025

The wine has a lovely garnet hue and a beguiling nose of bright red fruit followed by savoury spice that has intensified with time in the bottle.  The whole clusters used in the fermentation contributed to this wonderful perfume and also to the high quality of the silky, fine tannins.   The well-integrated oak sits nicely in the background, enhancing the structure, and the apt acidity gives the wine a persistent flow.   The 2022 vintage was a warmer one, however, this wine is elegant and beautifully balanced with great aging potential.

The wine looks good.  Still very youthful.”

Gorgeously fruited and fragrant, the bouquet shows sweet plum, cherry, olive, clove, and roasted nut aromas. It's silky-smooth and flowing in the mouth, offering excellent fruit purity with stylish complexity. Splendidly framed by layers of fine tannins, making it wonderfully structured with a persistent, velvety finish. At its best: now to 2032.

Fruit-focused Pinot Noir with black-fleshed plum, black cherry, raspberry, chocolate, mocha , vanilla and spicy oak flavours. Delicious wine with a strong Bannockburn signature.

Currently delicious, the smooth-flowing 2022 vintage (*****) was estate-grown and hand-harvested from vines over 20 years old at Bannockburn, and matured in French oak casks (25 per cent new).  Full, bright ruby, it is perfumed, mouthfilling and supple, with strong, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, a gentle seasoning of nutty oak adding complexity, balanced acidity and a silky-textured, persistent finish.   Best drinking 2027+.

Excellent

A very engaging bouquet, a pure fruited beginning with scents of fresh red cherries and plums then layers of aromas suggesting stony clay soils and dried herbs, a mix of dried raspberry and barrels scents, wood smoke and baking spices. Dry, youthful and delicious with textures from fine polished tannins first, a backbone of acidity and salivating freshness then flavours of plums and boysenberry flesh, some dried raspberry and bracken herb qualities. Still developing, a wine that is worth exploring alongside food with best drinking from 2026 through 2034.
